Migraines
Migraines
Migraine is a common and debilitating condition, affecting ability to function in those that have them.
Approximately 12% of Australians aged 15 years and over experience migraines, with females more commonly affected than men.
What does a migraine feel like?
Migraines can be quite debilitating with symptoms such as:
- headaches on one side of the head.
- pulsating quality
- moderate or severe intensity
- being aggravated by routine physical activity.
- nausea, vomiting, or both
- photophobia (light sensitivity)
- Some people will experience an “aura” – including visual disturbances and sensation changes
Migraines and Chiropractic
Over 75% of migraine patients report associated neck pain when they have a migraine.
Other musculoskeletal complaints such as neck stiffness, muscle tension, or problems with jaw function as also common.
Theories of migraine pathophysiology suggest migraine-associated neck pain can be caused by triggering the trigemino-cervical neural complex.
Also, neck pain itself may cause the the onset of migraine.
